Movie review

Star Wars Movie Review-

I recently have been contemplating what made Star Wars such a memorable movie, and believable to all who witnessed it back when it was originally released. Costuming and set design played a large role in this; the fact that they could create the interior of a large spaceship, or that the costuming department could create thousands of molded costumes for the armies in this film. For future films I will strive to accomplish the same detailing that this movie has.

  1. I'll be perfectly honest, I have already seen the original Star Wars, but it's been many years and I have a new point of view on movies in general, so I re-watched it. I have to say, I'm glad I did. This movie was made in 1977, on a less than minimal budget, but despite that the effects were actually really good. Or at least, the original effects... but more on that later. I have actually seen the old video tape "From Star Wars to Jedi; the Making of a Saga", which showed how a lot of the special effects work, (the puppets, set designs, and hundreds of molded creatures) but I'm still not sure how some of those things were done. But special effects don't make a movie, the story does (at least, that's what the 1978 George Lucas said). While the story is more or less a typical space-adventure type-thing, the characters are what make it so enjoyable. You really end up liking the characters and want them to succeed, which is something fairly rare in movies today. But of course, the version I saw wasn't really the "original", but rather the 2004 special edition, which had..... a few changes to it. Now, there weren't ALL terrible, but a lot of them were really stupid. A lot of digital effects were added, which really distracted from the overall movie, and just seemed out of place with all the puppets and animatronics, and it wasn't very well done either. They also contained a lot of new (and completely useless) dialogue that didn't add anything to the story. I did however enjoy the scene with Jabba the Hut, because it was a missing part of the story that we never got to see, but the horrible "Greedo shot first" incident really made me angry, as it messed with Han Solo's character development.

But anyways, it was a very enjoyable movie, I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a good old fashion movie, or just a good movie in general, especially if you are hoping to pursue a career in film. It's a good fun movie, with unique special effects, and enjoyable story, and memorable characters.

  2. This was quite the groundbreaking film because before this film, there was no such thing as CGI, but besides that it was an honestly great movie and, despite what Drake may tell you, had a great director who had a great vision. I love this film and will for years to come

  3. This is a timeless classic expressing the archetypical battle between good and evil. The story is simple, and certainly not the first sci-fi reenactment of common knight in shining armor tales, but somehow it has made the impact it has on the film business. How? Not only were the special effects ahead of its time, but the simple story, which could not be ruined, provided a situation with few limitations of what those special effects could do. In many ways, the movie set the standard for future science fiction films and television series. It conveyed the story of Luke Skywalker, a guy that many of us can relate to, but whose exodus few have experienced. This relation the audience feels toward the main character has none of the limitations of our their actual lives. Because it’s a movie, our dreams can be expanded and put into motion. This fantasy captures the hearts of millions of viewers; we all dream of wielding the force, and that dream is played out in this movie.
